WatchGuard Report: Malware Decreases but Encrypted Malware Up in Q2 2022

The report revealed that while overall malware attacks in Q2 fell off from the all-time highs seen during previous quarters, over 81% of detections came via TLS encrypted connections. This could reflect threat actors shifting their tactics to rely more elusive malware. The top vulnerability identified by WatchGuard was Follina Office exploit kit which had been used against targets such as Microsoft Office users since early 2020s when it first appeared on dark web marketplaces selling data theft tool kits designed specifically for getting confidential information like emails and documents out of victims' possession without them knowing what happened
